Individual Therapy

UOP Services Page 1 - Man Dog AdobeStock_673079271.jpeg

One-on-one therapy sessions allow people to identify challenges and barriers to living a more fulfilling life at their own pace. Kay will support you to work towards change, recovery, personal growth, and improved relationships.

The number of sessions needed depends on the specific challenges you’d like to work through. Most people attend around 10 sessions, which is the number of Medicare rebates available through a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) in a calendar year. Throughout our time together we'll review progress towards your goals, and adjust those if needed, and decide whether it would be beneficial to extend our work together depending on what feels right for you.

Sessions can focus on one or more areas such as:

  • Anxiety & Depression

  • Attachment Issues

  • Behavioural or Forensic Concerns

  • Chronic Illness

  • Communication & Conflict Resolution

  • Emotion Regulation

  • Grief & Loss

  • Life & Career Changes

  • Impulsivity & Recklessness

  • Relationship & Family Difficulties

  • Panic Attacks & Phobias

  • Separation or Divorce

  • Stress & Burnout

  • Trauma & PTSD

  • Workplace Challenges

Couples & Relationship Therapy

All relationships go through ups and downs but sometimes couples can feel stuck and find it difficult to resolve an issue on their own. This can be due to a difference of opinion or having different values, or the result of life stressors, major events or conflicts. Other times it’s a difference in communication styles leading to misunderstandings and conflict around day-to-day issues. Kay will support each person in the relationship to be heard equally, and will guide and support you to learn healthier ways to communicate and manage issues together.

Couples and relationship therapy works best when the focus of the work is on the relationship itself, not on one or other of the people within the relationship. Therapy will involve most sessions being held together, with one or more separate individual sessions being held as determined by your psychologist. To remain impartial, Kay will not be able to hold secrets from either member of the couple in these individual sessions. Rather, you’ll be supported to communicate information that’s important to you, to each other, safely within your joint sessions, so you may hear, absorb and respond to one another’s thoughts, feelings and concerns in a calm and supportive way.

Those who discover challenges they would like to explore further in individual sessions, in addition to those that form part of couples and relationship counselling, will need to engage a separate therapist to maintain the integrity of Kay’s primary relationship with the couple. Please note that Medicare rebates are not available for couples and relationship sessions.

Couples and relationship therapy supports helps people navigate difficulties, and enhance their relationships through exploring areas such as:

  • Affection, Intimacy & Sexuality

  • Conflict Resolution

  • Family & Friends

  • Life Transitions

  • Parenting

  • Partner Styles & Habits

  • Relationship Roles

  • Relationship Transitions

  • Retirement

I.T. & Other Professionals

UOP Services Page - Computer Mouse AdobeStock_1141584500.jpeg

Working in I.T. and related fields comes with unique challenges—high-pressure deadlines, constant problem-solving, and the expectation to always be "on." Whether it's burnout from long hours, career development frustration, or difficulty switching off after work, these pressures can take a toll on mental health and wellbeing. With my background in both psychology and I.T., I understand the demands of the industry and offer tailored support to help you manage stress, improve work-life balance, and develop strategies to navigate the complexities of technical work.

I provide a practical, evidence-based approach to mental health that acknowledges the realities of working in creative, fast-paced, problem-solving environments. Whether you're struggling with workplace stress, career transitions, or personal challenges, therapy can help you gain clarity and build resilience. You don’t have to manage everything alone—let’s work together to create a healthier, more sustainable way forward.

Consultancy for ICT SMEs

Kay provides consultancy to I.T. and similar organisations, bringing her understanding and passion for technology into identifying and solving problems together. With humans and technology becoming more closely intertwined, and our society having a much heavier reliance on technology and those who work within technology as a result, the expectations on managers and staff within technical organisations has never been higher. Having experience in both psychology and I.T. sets Kay apart in her ability to understand the unique challenges of working in technical environments and what might be of greatest assistance to managers and staff. If you would like a quotation for consultancy services, please get in touch.

Veterans and First Responders

Kay provides sensitive support and understanding to serving and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), police, ambulance, and other emergency services. Kay grew up in a family deeply connected to local and world history and has a deep respect for the brave service and sacrifices of others. She is proud to have had a Great Uncle who served (and was lost) at Gallipoli, and a Granddad who served in the RAAF in New Guinea as well.

Kay has spent several years working with not-for-profit agencies such as Soldier On, who support veterans, police, families and others and as a result, has a deep appreciation for the impact of traumatic injuries (physical, mental, emotional and moral) on people’s lives and on the lives of those around them. She is passionate about providing a safe and respectful space for those who have served, or are still serving, to explore their truly unique challenges and experiences.

Kay does not currently have an agreement with the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) or any other third-party organisations except Medicare, however intends to register with DVA soon. You can learn more about claiming benefits here.

Forensic Treatment

UOP Services Page 4 - Forensic.jpeg

Forensic treatment focuses on the assessment, intervention and rehabilitation of individuals whose behaviours or mental health concerns intersect with the legal or criminal justice system.

I provide treatment for adults who:

  • Have been charged or sentenced for problem behaviours.

  • Have been non-legally reprimanded (e.g., workplace misconduct).

  • Are concerned about engaging in problem behaviours, such as struggling with problematic interests.

Therapy is non-judgmental and evidence-based, with a focus on reducing risk, and promoting positive behavioural change through making healthier and more informed choices. Treatment aims to improve lives and to support individuals to develop healthier ways of thinking and interacting with others.

I also offer counselling for adult partners, friends, and family members of offenders, to help them navigate and the impact of these concerns on themselves and others.

Please note that I do not currently provide forensic assessment or report services.

Forensic Treatment Enquiries

When making initial contact, please avoid including detailed information about your situation in email or other written communications.

Example of a Suitable Enquiry:  "I would like to begin treatment for problem behaviours. Is this something you can help me with?"

This is necessary for ethical and legal reasons. Prior to commencing any work together, I will explain the limits of confidentiality in forensic contexts. Once you have an understanding of these limitations, you can make an informed decision about how to share details regarding your circumstances.

If you’re not sure if you’re ready to book an appointment, you are welcome to book a Free 10 Minute Online Session with me first, to see if we are a good fit for one another. We will have a no-strings-attached chat and decide this together. Learn More
